Don spent the first part of his life in the New York City metropolitan area (the Jersey side) working in warehouse management positions before heading south in 1980. Don spent five years in Jacksonville, Florida as a professional musician/entertainer/songwriter, and officially became ‘southern’ by marriage when he tied the knot with Paula and moved to South Carolina. After living in Columbia, SC until Paula graduated from Law School, the Thomas’s moved to Pawleys Island to start a family and lay down roots. Living in Pawleys Island for the past 20 years Don says, “I have seen a lot of changes, but the magic that is the South Carolina Low Country has remained.” While still maintaining a performing schedule along the Grand Strand, Don helped his wife run a successful law business (office manager) and a few successful political campaigns. (Paula was the area’s State Representative from 1993-1996, then she was first elected to the Circuit Court bench in 1996. She is currently a Judge of the SC Court of Appeals) After law and politics Don jumped into the real estate world for the first time in 1996, working with national affiliates ERA and Better Homes and Garden for a few years, then gaining some experience in the mortgage loan business before accepting an invitation to work with his local church as a Youth Director and eventually the leader of their Contemporary Worship service. Five years later Don was ready to get back into real estate in 2004 working with a long established firm in Litchfield until joining Vintage Estates Realty in February of 2008. Don currently has served as the President of the Pawleys Island Kiwanis Club and the co-Chair of the Grievance Committee for the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors. In the past he has been a board member of the Pawleys Island/ Litchfield Business Association (PILBA), Chairman of the March of Dimes Walk America (Georgetown County), Festival Director for the SC Crawfish Festival (Pawleys) and the Harborwalk Festival (Georgetown), Co-Chairman of the Beachfest @ Broadway Festival (Myrtle Beach), and produced two recording projects (Only The Beginning and Thank God For The 19th Hole).
